There is a neuro-biomechanical need for chiropractic care during pregnancy. The weight gained during pregnancy will increase the demand on the spinal and pelvis muscles and ligaments, fatiguing these structures. Low back and mid-back curves increase in order to compensate for the uneven weight gain, which leads to joint stress and the possible misalignments of sacroiliac and spinal joints. Common symptoms include SI joint dysfunction, sciatica, low back pain, symphysis pubis dysfunction, carpal tunnel syndrome and pain between the ribs, to name a few. The Webster Technique is used to reduce and correct the stress on the pelvis and uterine ligaments. Each woman is unique, and through our consultation and exam, we can create the best course of care that supports and cares for each woman the way that honours her specific needs. Postural advise and specific home exercises are recommended to support the chiropractic adjustments.
